A&E wards are for the critically ill

The Ministry of Health wishes to respond to a feature article in The Monitor of January 31, 2011 entitled "Nyangabgwe Emergency Ward: Torture"

An emergency service in the health sector of any country is critical and Botswana is no exception.  It is for this reason that government has instituted emergency measures in health facilities to address emergency situations. 

These include measures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the accidents and emergency wards, instituting referral systems and designating accidents and emergency wards.  Accidents and Emergency (A&E) services are also being addressed not from a first come first serve perspective but the criticalness of patients and hence due diligence as lives are normally hanging in the balance in emergency cases.
