A peep into 2011

The year 2011 has come and gone. It was indeed an eventful year. It has had it's own good and bad moments. Below we tabulate some of the major events.

During the year civil servants embarked on an unprecedented industrial strike, the first ever legal strike in the history of this country. The workers downed tools for almost eight weeks. A lot of services were disrupted particularly the school system and the health sector.

Though government never owned up to some of these inconveniences, the health sector was highly affected with many deaths reported in hospitals around the country. Teaching came to a halt in schools and this eventually forced students to engage in the strike to complain about lack of teaching in schools. In an effort to avert some of these problems, government, through the Directorate of Public Service Management, employed temporary staff.A lot of those were found wanting as they did not know what to do.
