In the event, we had to wait for his funeral in his home village of Sebina to be reported (The Voice 8 November) in order to learn anything about the murderous attack on him which had caused his death.  The Odi grapevine maintains that Mr Lebang, who was known to be renting a small house within a large compound, arrived there to find that the owner's dogs were, unusually, loose in the yard.

He decided that to reach his rented home, it was worth taking a chance with the dogs which did, of course, know him. Five of them, according to the Voice, being two pit bulls and three others of similar disposition, attacked him, and mauling him caused injuries from which he later died.
