Currently the ministry has embarked on a weeklong campaign to give children between the ages of six months and 59 months Vitamin A supplement.

It has been found that well over 10 million children do not reach their fifth birthday. These deaths unfortunately are caused by diseases that are preventable. A significant number of these children who die (about four million) are from our African continent, mostly Sub-Saharan Africa. Medical experts believe that vitamin A could greatly reduce these deaths as some of these deaths are caused by diseases such as malaria, measles and diarrheoa-disesases that are curable with modern medication.
