What is this govt up to?

Can somebody just tell us that this is not true? Please, someone just tell us that this is one bad dream. Is it true that the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs Charles Tibone has declared that 17 individuals from the United Kingdom, Canada, United States and Australia would need visas to enter into Botswana? Before you ask, here is what is wrong with the minister's declaration.

Under the current practice, citizens from all the four countries are exempt from visa requirements by Botswana.

The minister's action presupposes that there is something wrong the listed individuals have done to be subjected to this type of scrutiny. Ministers have been entrusted with weighty matters of national security and the safety of the nation. We rely on government to screen and where possible, eject and reject unwanted elements such as terrorists, drug dealers and other undesirables. Among the men and women that are placed in the new visa list are members of Survival International such as Steven Corry, Mirriam Ross, Fiona Watson and Jonathan Mazower. Others are journalists Jonathan Simpson, Jonathan Reed, Tom Price, and David White. You would think Botswana has turned into another Zimbabwe with its infamous Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
