Water becomes costly

It has come as a shock to many people that it could cost them P6 000 or more to connect water to their homesteads. Prior to the new charge it could cost someone as little as P400 to do the same.

Recently government decided to hike the cost of all water supply services to the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC). Whereas WUC mainly provided water to towns and major villages in the past, the Department of Water Affairs provided water to larger communities in the rural areas.

Since the take over by the WUC, there have been complaints by residents across the country that the transfer has negatively affected water supply in some villages as in some cases, residents would go on for days without water.
