Voter apathy is worrisome

On October 27, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) closed the National Voting Registration (NVR). The just-ended exercise will go down in history as one that was shunned by eligible voters.


The IEC contributed to this sad episode by not adequately publicising the registration. The just released statistics from the IEC have confirmed that so far 478,148 registered to vote in the 2014 general elections. This is far less than the 1.2 million the electoral body expected.
