Unions are not about strikes

Yesterday, we carried a story about the age-old debate about whether state security officers like the police should unionise. Different parties debated the matter at a gathering in Gaborone this week, offering reasons for or against unionisation of armed forces officers.

We believe that healthy debate is always good for the nation and it helps to develop policies that have been fully scrutinised.

We, however, find that in many instances, those who argue against the unionisation of police officers fall into the trap of thinking that labour movements are all about strikes.
