TS, a sign of tired thinking

In his State of the Nation address this week, President Ian Khama announced his government's intention to re-introduce Tirelo Sechaba, a programme that looks like a carbon copy of the national internship.


The initial TS, which was stopped in 1999, targeted high school leavers and was a means to unite the nation through a form of cultural exchange among Botswana’s tribes. Put simply, a young person from the south of the country would be deployed to a village far from his home to learn about the culture and lifestyle of people in his/her host village and vice versa with children from the north.
