Time to rid Botswana of racism

In neighbouring South Africa tempers are flaring after a white woman posted on social media referring to black people as monkeys. Her complaint was triggered by multitudes of black people who thronged Durban beaches during festive season.

The comments have also led to the suspension of a top bank official who allegedly participated in the conversation.

The ruling African National Congress on Tuesday moved a step further and announced it is drafting a law that will make it criminal to utter racist words in any public platform words which in any way glorify apartheid era.  The country’s Human Rights Commission is also investigating the utterances whilst some people have interpreted the ‘monkey’ comments as an indication their white counterparts are still in a hangover of the past – of white supremacy.
