Time to arrest escalating violent crime

Violent crimes are at all time high. And they seem to be increasing everyday. Manifestations of violent crime are not particularly confined to any specific area of our lives. It pervades the whole of the societal spectrum. Women, men and children are being subjected to violent crime sometimes with fatal consequences. Rape, murder, armed robbery, burglary and assaults have become too common.

Femicides or 'passion killings' became somehow fashionable in the past few years but after a slump in recent times due to harsh criticism by society, it appears the vice is now boldly on the come back trail. For instance, in this issue, we carry a story of a 22-year-old Maun woman who survived 'passion killing'.  The would-be boyfriend murderer has committed suicide after setting her home ablaze.  The woman, together with her 18-month old child, is now destitute. She has appealed for assistance.

The police reports indicate that there have been 48 cases of murder since the beginning of the year and 359 cases of armed robbery. The period in question also witnessed 192 reported cases of rape.
