There was no emergency - it should have come with 4Ds

The trouble with spontaneous decisions is that while they are invariably populistic, they tend to be inconvenient, too. Take, for instance, the decision by President Khama to declare Election Day a holiday.

 This in this country is unprecedented and the reality is that it is the kind of decision that will be celebrated by many across the political divide. It's a decision that when looked at objectively was long overdue and it makes one wonder why it took so long to implement despite its obvious inherent good.

The opposition parties had been singing that song for a while, but their demands always fell on deaf ears. Khama has done well to break away with the past and make Election Day a holiday. So much for the inherent good in the gesture.
