There has to be a third way

President Ian Khama has been in office for nine months. The euphoria that greeted his presidency on April Fool's Day of 2008, like all the pranks played on that day, has all but vanished.

What now remains are questions, doubts, and above all, fear that we might have inadvertently imposed upon ourselves something akin to a police state.

Never in the democratic history of this nation have we witnessed the high level of fear and mistrust that reigns among the public, the civil service, the media and even in Khama himself.
