The weak should master their own destiny

In the neo-colonial theory of political studies, it is generally held that the powerful former colonial masters hold their ex-colonies under a not-so-clandestine yoke.

It is said in the post-colonial period, the Western world and other powerful countries made a decision to further their interests through a much more sophisticated system of control. These, political analysts argued, included such things as trade agreements, bilateral agreements and international institutions. In other words, the imperial ambitions have not been abandoned, but rather have been clothed in new dressing. Of course critics of this political theory and western diplomats alike condemned the thinking, saying its anti-West. However, whether through the dictates of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other multilateral organisations such as the United Nations (UN), which has been abused to effect everything from the Gulf War to regime change in Libya, the neo-colonial project is still intact.

As it always does, the truth has risen to the top the way cream does. It turns out the Americans want to withdraw funding for United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) because the body has granted Palestinians recognition.  The United States has a certain compulsion to stand by Israel on every issue. It is something the US foreign policy designers do not seem to have the aptitude to deal with in a viable way. Even when it does not make sense at all, the US always stands by Israel. Even against all dictates of human decency, the most powerful country has been pulled along by the nose by the interests of Israel. The funding issue with UNESCO once again demonstrates this.
