The police will need you

On Friday last week, Botswana Police Service (BPS) launched what is becoming its annual campaign of 60 Days of Action on Crime and Road Safety at the Gaborone Sun. The campaign starts from November 1 and will end on December 31 this year.

BPS invited members of the forth estate, beginning with junior reporters, with the invitation extended to editors, senior journalists and marketing staff on Monday this week. The idea is to have more saturation publicity for informing and educating the public about this campaign and the responsibility each and every Motswana and their guests carry as law-abiding citizens and residents.

The campaign is aimed at prevention of lawlessness and anti-social behaviour. It is also aimed at reducing road traffic accidents and resultant casualties. Senior Assistant Commissioner Katlholo Mosimanegape, who is also the Director of Traffic, told journalists that the last 60 days of the year are usually critical to road safety and crime in Botswana, a period when many Batswana experience personal grief over loss of loved ones, trauma and injuries. Many are also deprived of their valuable property.
