The parties must respect each other

When the chairman of the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD), Nehemeiah Modubule, recently told a press conference that the BMD is fully supportive of the umbrella form of cooperation being adopted by the opposition for the 2014 elections, there was hope that, indeed, the statement by the BMD policy director Ndaba Gaolathe was nothing but a personal feeling.

Indeed Ndaba was bashed for his utterances by none other than the BMD president, Gomolemo Motswaledi.As if that was not enough, Ndaba received more public whipping again from BMD elder Sidney Pilane in a letter sent to a weekend newspaper.

One would have thought enough had been done by the BMD itself to condemn any statement that might have made anyone doubt the party's commitment to the umbrella.
