The challenge is uneven development

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has released its Human Development Index report.

Unlike other purely economic indicators such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP), per capita income tends to focus on averages as it encompasses major determinants of human development such as a long and healthy life, access to knowledge and a decent standard of living.

GDP, on the other hand, measures the total wealth created and does not seem to go further to show how the wealth is distributed.
