Strike has valuable lessons for everyone

The on-going civil servants' strike has had a profound impact on many aspects of our lives. No one would say they have not been inconvenienced by the walkout.

Many will in fact react to the strike in terms of how they have been affected. It cannot be denied that there are obviously people in Government Enclave and in the public who believe that the strike is a demonstration that government made a mistake by ratifying the many International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions.

Some would even go further and state that beyond ratification of the convention government made the biggest mistake by implementing the conventions as domestic legislation like the liberal Public Service Act. The new Act seems to be in tandem with labour practices globally, which allow the employees to have a say in matters that affect them.
