Strategic leadership needed in some public schools

Education is the key to life hence every financial year billions of Pula arechannelled to the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD).

This has been the case since Botswana attained independence from the Britain in 1966. The simple idea is to grow the country, which is heavily reliant on minerals, especially diamonds, through education. There is no doubt that this is a noble idea.

The MoESD continues to receive the lion’s share of the recurrent budget year after year when the Minister of Finance and Development Planning allocates the budget. To show that Botswana means business, between 2010 and 2014, education was allocated P42 billion out of the national total of P163 billion.
