Step in the right direction

The bold step taken by the Ministry of Trade and Industry to open up an office in Francistown is laudable and one that is long overdue.

For a long time people in the northern part of the country have had to drive long distance sometimes just for service that is routine. It is unbelievable that for service such as applying for a licence people had to drive hundreds of kilometres just to access this service in Gaborone. This was very expensive and could have effectively inconvenienced many people in the extreme north of the country to open up businesses. It is unthinkable that what seems to be a logical thing to do took so long.

Why did it take so long to set up this office?Perhaps we should not be bothered about the wrongs of the past but be concerned about the proactive measures that the current leadership in the ministry is putting in place. We understand that the ministry intends to open up more offices in other regions in the country. There is talk that more offices shall be opened in the Central, Kgalagadi, Ghanzi and elsewhere in the North West Districts.
