Shooting the messenger

In yesterday’s issue, we carried unfortunate remarks made by Police Commissioner, Keabetswe Makgophe, in which he threatened to invoke a section of the Penal Code in the aftermath of the so-called “hit list” against opposition politicians.

 

The section in question makes it a criminal offence to “publish any false statement, rumour or report which is likely to cause fear and alarm to the public or to disturb the public peace”.
