SADC Fails Zimbabweans

The emergency summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) heads held in Tanzania has once again failed Zimbabweans. Infact, as some commentators say, it was instead a victory for Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe.

The summit has not done any good to the Zimbabweans. They still find themselves having to live with the monster. SADC has for a long time failed to take action on Mugabe. The silent diplomacy has drastically failed because Mugabe continues to do as he pleases.

The irony of the silent diplomacy is that those countries who are sharing the border with Zimbabwe are the most hit as Zimbabweans flock into those countries looking for better lifelihood. The situation must have been worsened by the recent developments in the country. Botswana and South Africa appear to be the most hit by this influx. These countries spend a lot of money in the upkeep of these people when they are in prison waiting for trials as well as when they are in detention camps awaiting repatriation. Repatriation is not helping the situation as these people are back in the respective neighbouring countries as soon as the truck that dropped them is back on the road.
