SADC energy crisis needs more than talk

Like most noble undertakings, President Ian Khama’s call for a special workshop on the region’s energy and water crisis, is laudable. As the SADC chair, Khama correctly deduced the major troubles plaguing the region and in his sagacity, called three special workshops aimed at formulating responses. The first, held last month, tackled poverty and food security.

The Monday’s one on energy and water was the second and next week, the focus shifts to illegal trade in wildlife.

As commendable as these efforts at seeking inward-looking solutions to the region’s greatest challenges are, the elephant in the room, particularly at the energy and water workshop, is implementation.
