SA street violence is horrible

Just on the month and day that we normally celebrate Africa Day, the biggest spectre that will blight Africa and Africans for a long time to come occurs on African soil.

This time it is not President Robert Mugabe putting on a show of shenanigans to steal the Zimbabwean elections. This time it is not Africans rioting against their political foes or some authoritarian leader.

It is South Africans killing other Africans ostensibly for taking over their jobs and exacerbating crimes in their communities. It all started in one township in Alexandra and now this cancerous human madness has spread to other centres. Well over 40 people have been killed and we are still counting body bags. It is all very easy for us to point fingers at South Africans for being ungrateful and intolerant. Africans across the continent can all claim, and justifiably so, to have played a critical role in helping liberate South Africa from the demonic clutches of the apartheid system.
