Radio Botswana deserves credit for election coverage

Last Friday, the nation held its 10th general election. The day was declared a public holiday and this gave the majority of our people the chance to vote without having to worry about work commitments.

We do recognise that those whose responsibility was to run the electoral process did not have the proper opportunity to cast their vote and this will remain a blot on the elections.

However, elections always involve a large contingent of media practitioners. The last one was no different. This media house dedicated more than 15 journalists and photographers to cover the event. This is simply because the election is the biggest news event this year. During an election such as ours, in a country as sparsely populated as ours, the media becomes central to spreading news as events unfold. They were there from voting, verifying, counting and finally confirmation of results. In this regard, we thank both our reporters and other media workers who were part of the major operation of covering the general elections.
