Quality standards in education require urgent intervention

The Minister of Education and Skills Development Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi has announced an intervention to monitor quality in our education system.

This initiative is welcome and could not have come at a better time. According to a story in this edition, this is part of an overhaul of the education sector, which would encompass the establishment of a body that will monitor and control the quality of education, training qualifications and accreditation of education providers in Botswana.

Venson-Moitoi made this announcement at the launch of the Education and Training Strategic Sector Plan (ETSSP) in Gaborone yesterday. She said the body will ensure that learners have access to and are provided with high quality and relevant courses and training. Moreover, it aims to position local training institutions to increase their recognition and make them sought after.
