President's trips bleed the country

President Festus Mogae's trips, in the last financial year alone, cost the country up to P8million. By all standards, P8million is a lot of money, particularly in a developing country like Botswana.

The question however is whether P8 million is too much to have been gobbled up in one year. The question is, of course, a difficult one and there would be no easy answers.

Were these trips worth the money spent? We can only know the usefulness of the trips not by looking at the intended goals but by matching the goals with the achieved results. The trouble is that it might take a while before the results become visible.
