Overzealous policing could fracture a delicate balance

In the past it was not common to see a group of police officers relaxing with members of the public, chatting away and sharing jokes, something which is common nowadays.  This kind of relaxed atmosphere should be maintained to build a needed trust between the two parties to enable the public to openly assist police investigating criminal activities, as well as for the police to easily fight crime.

It can also help police secure witnesses who can testify in court proceedings to convict criminals and keep them out of our streets.  The same should be applied by traffic police officers who keep our roads free of drunken and reckless drivers, who cost the nation hundreds of lives in road carnages annually.  It is a fact that the visibility of police in our roads has impact on reduced reckless driving and accidents.
