Orange and Mascom must wake up

The festive season is here once again. A lot of things will be going on. Batswana love the festive season, and rightly so, because it brings with it celebrations of every sort; weddings, family get-togethers, business parties, and so on.

But this is also a time when that old issue of telephone network problems rears its ugly head again. The dysfunctional telephone network has almost become synonymous with the festive season. Phones go dead. Helpline attendants always give the same old explanation, which goes something like: "Our system is overloaded".

Both Orange and Mascom should not delude themselves into thinking that such explanations are enough, especially given that this is a problem that recurs every festive season.
