Opposition Sitting Ducks

The weekend results of the two by-elections in Hatsalatladi and Mathangwane showed the opposition is no match for the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). The Botswana National Front (BNF) and Botswana Congress Party (BCP) were as good as not taking part looking at the negligible impact they made in the by-elections.

A loud and clear message has been sent to the opposition!  People do not like to be led by disorganised, trouble-torn parties. With the way the opposition is handling itself, it is clear that peace is not guaranteed in their ranks or when they take power. This is a challenge to the opposition.

It was a stroll in the park for the ruling party. A few months ago when the opposition cooperated in by-elections, they gave the BDP a hard time. They even managed to wrestle seats from the ruling party strongholds like Bobonong. But once the unity started unravelling, the BDP turned tables and snatched seats even from opposition areas. It is obvious the opposition could have made a huge impact the BDP strongholds of Hatsalatladi and Mathangwane if they cooperated.
