Opposition parties must wake up or else

On Sunday morning Batswana awoke to the news that the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) had once again trounced the opposition in the two council by-elections in Selebi-Phikwe and Shashe-Moke.

It does not make any news anymore when the opposition commits harakiri. The opposition in the country seem to be good at scoring in their own net. In football parlance players who score own goals are called villains - and not champions - and it seems everybody understands this language except our esteemed politicians in the opposition.

We have in the past been accused of coaching the opposition in a game that is inherently polarising. No! we refuse that tag. We are not coaching anyone, it is only that we love democracy so much that we cannot leave it to the dictates of politicians to weaken the very process that generates our leaders.
