Olopeng signals a frustrated lot

Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Thapelo Olopeng, has displayed qualities of a multi-talented man who is hungry for success that is accompanied with fun.

He has ridden quad bikes in the sand dunes of Khawa and elsewhere, alongside his friend, President Ian Khama. In his first 12 months as minister, Olopeng has demonstrated commitment to youth and sport development in Botswana, and has played significant roles in various entertainment events.

One such event is the spring Rasesa Air Show after which he was on national television vowing to bring more of those forms of entertainment into the country. It is a noble vision that should be supported by all stakeholders. Just a few days before Christmas, Olopeng found himself fighting with his cabinet colleague at Ministry of Trade and Industry to increase entertainment hours to at least 2am on the 23 and 24th and on 30 and 31st December.
