Now everyone has a chance to vote

At long last President Ian Khama has announced the date for this year's general election.

The rest of us had been waiting like a young girl waits for her Romeo to propose marriage or at worst when we mortals wait for the last day, which we know will come, but we never know the exact day and moment. This is the huge power that this nation has bequeathed upon the Presidency. Is it not astonishing that we can do this to ourselves?

We have in the past pointed out that this is one aspect about our democracy that makes us a laughing stock to other nations that pretend to be democratic. Election day is very important and for this democracy to coalesce so much power in one person is a major spurt on our democratic credentials.
