LIMID under-utilisation in Gaborone is worrying

According to assistant Minister of Local Government Botlogile Tshireletso at a Pitso held in Gaborone on Friday, only two persons in Gaborone are utilising the government poverty eradication programme for small stock, Livestock Management and Infrastructure Development (LIMID).

The Minister would like us to believe that Gaborone residents are shunning LIMID, preferring to do white-collar jobs.

The fact is that Gaborone residents, especially at the base are struggling so much that if a programme of this kind was to be taken to them in clear language, there would be a rush for it, rather than the shunning that the minister is telling us of.  Gaborone residents are by nature mobile people who wake up in the morning to fend for themselves and often return late in the evening to rest. Government  officers in a busy environment like Gaborone must be finding it tricky communicating  programmes such as LIMID to the poor youthful urban population.
