Over the last few years, government has spent a lot of money on education infrastructure. The target of 200 community junior secondary schools has been achieved and surpassed. Admittedly, the growth in the numbers of senior secondary schools has been comparatively slower. We, however, understand that about four regional senior secondary schools are in the pipeline.
We have reached a stage of self-sufficiency in the production of trained teachers and now there is an oversupply. Whatever the consequences, another milestone - manpower training - in the education sector has been reached and surpassed.
It underscores the indispensable role women play in our society, particularly in building strong households and nurturing families.
