Libraries and museums have been neglected

One of the country's most celebrated ideals is encapsulated in the national Vision 2016. This ideal is an undertaking that by 2016, we hope to have a nation that is informed and educated. Looking at the efforts that have been invested already, the goal is reachable.

Over the last few years, government has spent a lot of money on education infrastructure. The target of 200 community junior secondary schools has been achieved and surpassed. Admittedly, the growth in the numbers of senior secondary schools has been comparatively slower. We, however, understand that about four regional senior secondary schools are in the pipeline.

We have reached a stage of self-sufficiency in the production of trained teachers and now there is an oversupply. Whatever the consequences, another milestone -  manpower training - in the education sector has been reached and surpassed.
