Let's halt DPP exodus or else!

Member of Parliament (MP) for Molepolole South, Daniel Kwelagobe is concerned about the spate of resignations at the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Of late a number of senior prosecutors at the DPP have resigned to join the private sector. The exodus has been compounded by the fact that DPP founder and her deputy have had to retire. Thus the new people at the DPP have obviously missed out on the rapport and induction from some of the most senior people in the department.

The effect of these resignations is that the prosecution miss out on the vastly experienced lawyers who have left and continue to leave the DPP. Not a long time ago, this same exodus bug had hit the Administration of Justice, particularly at the level of magistracy. Magistrates resigned in large numbers and this almost paralysed the justice system. As a contingency remedy, the Administration of Justice had to employ a lot of expatriate magistrates as citizen magistrates found the working conditions unbearable.
