Let us stop the rot at parastatals

In this edition we lead with a story from a parliamentary committee report that found that there is a lot of rot at many of our parastatals, where MD's and CEO's have been found to be over-remunerated.

The report also uncovers wastage of funds as well as possibility of a criminal element at these entities.  It is indeed disturbing to note that  a parastatal that gets as much as P60 million a year from government uses over 42 per cent of those funds just to pay salaries.

Indeed at a time when belt-tightening and prudent use of resources are supposed to be the keywords.  For a government that is grappling with funds for its budget, this report shows us the way, where to close the leaking taps and save money for other priorities as a matter of urgency.
