Judiciary is in the spotlight again

About a month ago, Chief Justice (CJ) Dibotelo Maruping and certain judges of the High Court exchanged ugly spats in public bringing the Judiciary into disrepute.

CJ Maruping had come short of accusing some judges and support staff of being corrupt. The judges, especially those from the Lobatse division, took offence to these allegations and in turn accused the CJ of failure to address poor service delivery which they believed had led to forum shopping within the Judiciary. The judges demonstrated their displeasure by downing tools.

However, we Batswana being a docile and fickle lot, the matter was forgotten in less than a week, and the forum shopping that the CJ had complained about continued.
