It's a welcome development

Government's move to commit over P380 million to treat Glen Valley wastewater into potable water that would be used for drinking and cooking by residents of the Greater Gaborone in 2014 is a welcome development.

This move is indeed long overdue, taking into account the fact that as a desert country this measure should have been one of the first in our planners' minds long ago.

The need for portable water, especially in the greater Gaborone area where half the population of this country is based, cannot be overemphasised.  It is this need for water that has caused government to draw water into the southern part of this country from as far as Letsibogo Dam and Ntimbale Dam, while another big water project, the North South Water Carrier 2, which will be drawing water all the way from the Zambezi, is also in progress.
