Is the government fighting its own people?

Government's policies that are either being introduced or 'resuscitated' at neck-breaking pace should be a cause for concern to the nation.

Recently, the Permanent Secretary to the President, Eric Molale, issued an instruction to permanent secretaries to ensure that employees do not leak information. To this end, Molale ordered the permanent secretaries to ensure that civil servants complete a declaration form committing themselves not to divulge information without authorisation.

Then the government pulled out its assistance to unions, including recalling officers who were seconded to the unions. Now we learn that the government has withdrawn teachers from the All-Africa Games. These issues should worry citizens because they appear to be a harbinger of worse things. It is worth noting that all these rushed decisions follow this year's public service strike. It was during the strike that a lot of information that government would have liked kept secret reached the public. The strike provided fodder for the ever-hungry news media, and a lot of what came out angered the government.
