Is our soccer in reverse mode?

Local soccer authorities have perfected the art of shooting themselves in the foot when least expected.

The path to a professional soccer league was long charted, in 2008, to be precise. However, recent incidents point to a dream far from being achieved. We refer in particular to two incidents in the last eight months that have dealt a heavy blow to local soccer, throwing into doubt our capability to run a professional league.

On Saturday, the Botswana Premier League (BPL) goofed in front of thousands of television viewers when three teams turned up at UB Stadium for their league fixtures. The confusion arose when BPL fixtured two games for the same venue and, believe it or not, at the same time.While BPL has tried to absolve itself of any blame, the teams claim to have correspondence confirming the fixtures at UB Stadium.
