How is Khama's example?

Yesterday's edition of our sister publication, The Monitor, carries three unflattering stories, all directly or indirectly linked to Government Enclave.

We consider, not in any order of unpleasantness, the one headlined "Doing It 'Khama Style' " on the front page.

There an Ethiopian man who makes no bones about what he thinks of Batswana and accordingly has no qualms about maltreating them is reported as having told senior mangers of a lodge that he runs in Gaborone that he will not change his ways because he is taking his example from President Ian Khama. We have no idea what else he has done, but what has been reported is that after assuming the position of General Manager at the lodge last December, the East African allegedly proceeded to fire 17 workers in three months and terminated the employment of three others last Friday. In addition, the Abyssinian withheld due overtime pay from the three because they have enjoyed free accommodation at the lodge. As it turns out, the three have challenged this but not on the grounds of terms of employment because even by Botswana standards, it would be bizarre to have accommodation in lieu of overtime pay. The three allege that what passes for "free accommodation" is a small, most likely out-of-view, storeroom shared by five of them, which is commonplace at such facilities and farms across Botswana.
