Hell upon Ian Smith

Ian Douglas Smith died yesterday in Cape Town and his family must be mourning their loss. We cannot fault them. Perhaps to them he was a loving person. It is difficult to believe that racists also have feelings.

To us, no amount of decency or modesty would inhibit us from saying what we feel about a man whose policies made life unbearable for our people in Zimbabwe and in the sub-region.

His racist wars affected many in the region. Smith was apartheid's Siamese twin. The spill-offs of the Smith war on terror waged against the black majority in Zimbabwe caused terror and agony.
