Heads must roll at BFA

The Zebras returned to Botswana yesterday after a journey that took them from Turkey through Ethiopia to the Central African Republic (CAR) where they suffered a historic 2-0 loss in a FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The sting of the humiliation lies in the fact that Botswana is the first country to lose to CAR in a World Cup qualifier, a minnows' victory that points to a swift degeneration for a Zebras side that made history a few months ago by brushing aside fancied Tunisia, Togo and Malawi en-route to a first time qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations. But disappointing though it was, the loss to the Wildcats was not entirely unexpected because of what happened to the Zebras before the game. Actually, we doubt if anyone expected any better than a loss in Bangui because CAR are not a team to underestimate, given their recent ascendancy and the way we made their work easier by our shambolic preparations.

The blame for this lies squarely at the door of the BFA. Pictures of players stranded at foreign airports are an eloquent illustration of the mayhem and bedlam that have come to typify Botswana's supreme football body.
