Guesthouses: Minister is on the right track

The Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Kitso Mokaila did a honourable thing by meeting the embattled unlicensed guesthouse operators yesterday in Gaborone. The operators had requested an urgent meeting with the minister to air their grievances after raids on their business premises.

There is no doubt that the guesthouse business is spreading fast in the country and something needs to be done to streamline the sub-sector and sort out its problems.
The two parties-the minister and guesthouse operators-exchanged information and ideas on how best to develop the sub-sector. 

It is in everybody's interest that the nascent and buoyant tourism sector where guesthouses play a big role is developed in an orderly manner. The authorities would like to ensure all applicable laws pertaining to the proper operation of the sector are adhered to.
