Greater prudence critical in power planning

In our Friday edition, we carried a rather mysterious report on the planned further extension of Morupule B power station.

Known as Morupule B 7 & 8, the project will involve an independent firm designing, financing, building, operating and maintaining two units with a collective 300MW and selling the power to the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC).

Already, BPC has four units with a nameplate output of 600MW at Morupule B and tenders are out for an additional 300MW extension to be run by an independent operator.
