Go for the Olympic gold Amantle!

Our Golden Girl, Amantle Montsho is now a world champion. After she outwitted a classy field on Monday to become the first Motswana to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships, even the sky should not be the limit for the 400 metres specialist and other Batswana sportsmen and women. The historic victory in Daegu, South Korea immediately brings a number of things to mind.

First the only crown missing from Montsho's growing list of honours is the Olympic gold medal. She has already conquered Africa, the Commonwealth and the world and now what remains is that Olympic gold. We believe that after her performance on Monday, Montsho has fully come of age and the Olympic title is very much within reach. If she becomes an Olympic champion in London next year, the Botswana runner will have become a veritable powerhouse in the women's 400 metres.

From her recent performances, it is clear that she is no longer the powerful runner who promised a lot but delivered little. She has definitely overcome the jinx that saw her falter in the finals after a gold medal performance in the heats.
