GCC Must Do Something

We carry a story about the shortage of fire engines in the Gaborone City Council. We are told that out of a fleet of 22 the fire engines in the Gaborone City Council, only two are running.

Even then, they are not well. This is tantamount to the City Council running without fire engines. This is not healthy. Like the story says, catastrophe is looming over our heads. Gaborone is such a big city and it cannot be serviced by two vehicles, which always break down.

The Council has to do something and now. They should not wait for disaster to happen before they buy new vehicles or even then restore the ones they have in order. It is amazing to hear that one vehicle was taken for service and it has not come back. Why is it not coming back? Are the people who are supposed to repair it failing? One would have thought that before these vehicles are bought, measures are put in place to take care of their service as and when it is needed. We do not want to assume anything. Should Olifant Mfa intervene?
