Empower Govt PROs to project positivity

A public relations department is a critical component that does not only manage the reputation and image of an institution, but also projects its aims and achievements. This is so especially for government public relations officers (PROs).

The Botswana government chief spokesperson Jeff Ramsay recently held a capacity building workshop PROs of public institutions, and from them he demanded a highly responsive and competent team.

We agree, as PR professionals extends far beyond drafting press releases, building relationships with key media representatives and managing the reputations. But Ramsay’s truth runs shallow as more often that not, PR professionals confide in the media and close associates that working for the government is a serious setback and tormentors as one’s hands and lips are usually tied, and tightly for that matter.
