Education in the intensive care unit

That our education system is in a crisis is not in doubt. The recent Junior Certificate Examination results bear testimony to this.

Something drastic needs to be done urgently to address the problems bedeveling the education sector. Quite a number of stakeholders will have to swallow their  pride and agree to resolve the crisis in the education sector.

The recent JCE results must be among the worst that this country has ever experienced. This is unexpected when so much has been done to improve the level of education. The Ministry of Education and Skills Development is the custodian of education in this country though they have delegated certain aspects of education to other bodies. Notwithstanding, whenever there is a problem in the education sector, they are supposed to be the first to take action. The buck stops with the minister. Any action would have to be duly communicated, for everybody to know what is happening not for people to be in the dark about issues that affect their children's education.
